Little balls of energy – and no added sugar – these sunbutter sesame energy bites really hit the spot!
You all may know how much I love things in a bite-sized form. Think my no-bake energy balls and my healthy Reece’s peanut butter cups just for starters. And also how much I love sunbutter and tahini. Well, this recipe marries all of these loves into amazing sunbutter sesame energy bites that really hit the spot when you’re just that little bit hungry … before you get hangry!
The original recipe (which I changed quite a bit) actually came from a book of coupons from our local grocery store. I did actually get a coupon for some more Sunbutter, which I greatly appreciated and wondered what else I could make with it. And then I remembered I have a whole heap of recipes using sunbutter … check them out here!
I would never have thought of combining sunbutter and tahini in the same recipe – but this works really well in these energy bites. And not adding any sweetener at all – none of my taste testers missed it. There is sweetness from the cranberries, but that’s all you really need. And you don’t get that sugar crash afterwards either.
Now I’ve added in hemp seeds to the recipe, for an additional crunch – if you can’t find these, or don’t like them, feel free to substitute with other seeds, like sunflower seeds, or sesame seeds, just to keep those flavors going!
And we keep these in the freezer. Grant and I really like these sorts of foods frozen – when they thaw they tend to go a little mushy, but frozen just seems to work really well for us! To each their own I guess!
