As you all know, I love granola.  And I love trying new things to make granola.  Most of them are pretty standard, like here, here and here.  But this one, this granola recipe is different.

I recently borrowed a cookbook by Gordon Ramsay from the library (oh, how great it is to be able to borrow books again … in English, but that’s off-topic).  The very first recipe in it was granola, with oats, puffed rice and a whole pile of nuts, seeds and dried fruit.  Both Grant and I looked at it and thought ‘yep, I’d eat that’.  I was interested in trying it as it didn’t have any butter – just honey to bind it all together.  So I followed the recipe and made it – and liked the final product so much that I wanted to include it here.  So, this isn’t my recipe – all credit goes to the great Gordon Ramsay – but it is extremely yummy!  And is now known to our family as ‘granola by Gordon’!

If you don’t have puffed rice to make this, just buy some rice cakes and crumble them up – works just as well at probably half the price!  And, as with all granola recipes that I’ve seen and tried, substitutions can be made all over the place – with the nuts, seeds and dried fruit, whatever you have in your cupboard will work well.

  1. For those of us living in the U.S. and not taught the metric/celsius measuring system, I would appreciate seeing the ounce, pound, and farenheit equivalents. Thank you SO much.

    1. Thanks for your comment – I do put some US versions on some of my recipes but will keep it in mind for the future.

      1. Frankly, even though I’m a “USAian” I prefer the metric measurements. I can set my scale to metric and with cooking all dry products should be measured by weight and not volume

    2. The US imperial measurements were not shown because they are inferior in every way. Every other country has to convert when they get recipies from US websites or videos so maybe you can convert too.

    1. I kept the granola in a sealed container just in my pantry – didn’t need to be refrigerated.

  2. What is 200 grams of honey? Is it 1 cup or 2 tablespoons of honey. Please can you put both measurements. It would not take much more effort.

  3. I didn’t like the puffed rice. But still a good basic recipe that turns out well without added fats.
I used 250g of honey with a scraped vanilla bean
Subbed the 100g of rice with oats for a total of 400g oats.
Bumped up the assorted nuts and seeds to 400g
    Added 50g of sweetened coconut.
Then added 200g of assorted dried fruits. Delicious. You could adjust the honey up a little depending on how sweet you want it. I also sprinkle just a little Maldon flaked salt.

    1. Thanks for the comment – I don’t think I really make the same recipe twice either, and just use whatever I have on hand!

  4. My kids were very hungry and requested me to make something. I thought of trying something different and while searching over the net I came across this post of yours. I made it in the same way as you have given and my kids really loved it a lot.

  5. Thanks for the recipe. In his YT video Gordon adds wheat bran as well. As i was following your written recipe, i missed adding it but still it came out quite good. Will try the wheat bran next time.

  6. The supermarkets have stopped stocking my Mom’s favourite granola. So I convinced her to let me see what I can do. I added 5ml of cinnamon and 12.5ml of dehusked sesame seeds. She is thrilled with her new breakfast cereal! I serve it to her with yoghurt, papaya and banana.

  7. I started thinking about what it would take to convert the US to metrics. It’s overwhelming. First of all – as of 2021, there were 132 million households in the US. I would think a large majority of them have measuring cups and spoons. All of them would need to be replaced. Amazon would LOVE this. Then, you have the boomers (of which I am one). We’re getting up there, and some of us might be beyond changing. :o| So, I converted using calculator on internet (yay) – here you go:

    Healthy 1/2 c honey
    1 tsp vanilla
    3 cups rolled oats
    1 cup puffed rice
    1 1/4 c. natural almonds
    1/2 c. pumpkin seeds
    1/2 c. sunflower seeds
    1/3 c. linseed
    1/3 c. raisins
    1/3 c. cranberries

    Bake at 350F.

I also added 1 c. of hazelnuts, and subbed golden flaxseed for the linseed.

    Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for providing – this granola is simply delicious.

    1. Thanks for your effort in converting it all. To be honest, I rarely measure ingredients when I make granola, but this gives others an idea of how much to use of each. Glad you enjoyed the granola as well!
